Lex's editor asks her to come to Beigor for a meeting. Eager to show Tugs the Crystal Realm, she invites him along
and he readily accepts the invitation. With the permission of the admirals, the two of them head out the next morning
and arrive in Beigor by sunset. Lex is nervous about her uncle seeing the two of them and Tugs urges her to simply confront
the fear rather than hiding. After some convincing, she finally agrees to simply take Tugs to meet with her uncle.
When they arrive at his manor, however, they are surprised to find him in his study, engaged in a passionate kiss with a woman
Lex's age.
Flustered, the woman, named Sabrina, explains that she is his fiance. Sabrina becomes furious with Lex's uncle
for not telling Lex about her sooner. For her own part, Lex is completely baffled. Sabrina, who proves to be a
perky and energetic host, immediately begins making idle chatter and pouring everyone drinks. Tugs notices that she
has two long scars on her back. Sabrina explains that she is actually a demon from the outerrealm. Her race is
the Neferteri and they are extremely rare. Immediately, this sets off warning klaxons in Lex's mind.
The next day, Sabrina takes Tugs on a whirlwind tour of every boutique and cobbleshop in Beigor. Although she resists,
Lex eventually allows herself to be talked into having a private breakfast with her uncle. Alone, Lex confronts him
about Sabrina. He readily replies that he loves her and that he was going to tell Sabrina about Lex eventually.
Lex demands that he tell Sabrina the whole truth, including the fact that he is both her uncle and her father. He agrees
to do so, confident that their love will endure any ugly truths from his past.
Lex and Tugs meet back at Lex's apartment. There, Tugs tells her that in his time with Sabrina, he's learned that
she's incredibly naive, bordering on stupid. He fears that she doesn't fully comprehend the way that most demons are
viewed in the Crystal Realm. Lex wars with herself over her feelings. Unable to allow her uncle this happiness,
she begins to think that Sabrina is nothing more than an elaborate experiment to him, although she admits that he's never
fallen in love with an experiment before that she knows of. Tugs asks her what she wants to do and Lex decides to show
Sabrina the truth. She draws Tugs a map of the manor, showing him where her uncle's laboratories are and instructs him
to take Sabrina there while she stalls her uncle.
In the evening, Lex and Tugs arrive at the manor where Sabrina is serving drinks again. After some careful wording,
Tugs and Sabrina leave Lex alone with her uncle. She tells him about her relationship with Tugs and agrees to let the
two of them talk, provided her uncle plays within her comfort zone. He agrees. Lex starts to get nervous, however,
as time passes and the others don't return. Her uncle senses her discomfort and offers her a drink. When he lifts
his own glass, however, the liquid rushes out of a hole in the bottom. Neither has any idea where the hole came from,
but it's uneven, as if the glass was melted through.
Panic seizes hold of Lex and she runs down to the laboratories, her uncle hot on her heels. There, she finds Tugs
unconscious, strapped to one of the tables. Sabrina is there with a knife and reveals her plot to kill Lex's uncle was
destroyed by Lex and Tugs. She wanted to quietly poison him, but now her hand's been forced and she must stab him.
Sabrina urges Lex to join in her crusade, in the name of all the demons that he's experimented on. Despite her rage,
Lex stands between Sabrina and her uncle. Sabrina warns that Lex doesn't know half the things he's done, but just then,
Lex's uncle rushes forward and tackles Sabrina. She falls on her own knife and dies. Tugs wakes and in the confusion,
Lex's uncle leaves, looking sad more than anything else.
