Since the loss of the Fanel siblings and their Spell of Three, the advance strike team has been wandering blind, giving
the Ebene a distinct advantage over the Phoenix Fighters. Concern grips everyone, but they are at a loss for what to
do. Casey and Tobias both work to try and find a solution, but none can be found. As the Phoenix Fighters face
their darkest hour, however, Joey appears, paying a visit to Adriana. She offers Adriana a gift from the PTB, the ability
to become an avatar of Shaldani and receive visions about the Ebene's portals. Adriana adamantly refuses. Joey
responds by giving Adriana a vision of the possible future of Shaldani.
Fifteen years into the future, Chandler, Isa, Galen, and a girl named Arista return to a mine where Lily and Princess
Eileen Dikawa are hiding from the Ebene. They curse a recent mishap involving the Ebene destroying their supply lines.
Galen gets the bulk of the blame, due to a blunder on his part. When Lily asks how bad the situation was, Isa dourly
replies that they were attacked by Philip and just barely managed to escape. Chandler took a terrible blow to the shoulder
and needs to be tended while the rest of them bemoan the lack of food. Fortunately, Ariadne is on hand to cheer them
up.
When questioned regarding her whereabouts, Ariadne explains that she's been searching among the ruins of the Phoenix
House, hoping to locate Casey's lost bell from Niflheim. Lily scoffs at the idea, but Ariadne explains that Casey used
the bell, fifteen years ago, to get Quinn to rescue the children from the Phoenix House right before it was destroyed, along
with all of the Phoenix Fighters, save for Ariadne and Philip Dragmire. Ariadne hopes that now the bell could help them
get Chandler out of the realm. As both a surviving member of the Phoenix House and the once and future king of Gonogah,
he is a target for all of the Ebene, especially Philip Dragmire.
While the others theorize about the bell, Galen steals Chandler's cloak and slips out of the cave into the open night.
He heads off to the Phoenix House, but is quickly intercepted by Philip. After toying with the boy for a bit, Philip
grabs his cloak and quickly realizes that it is Galen and not Chandler he is chasing. He torments Galen over the deaths
of his parents and then finally picks him up, flying away with him back to an Ebene lair. The next morning, his absence
is noticed. Ariadne decides to go after him, leaving a trail of ore behind her. She instructs Chandler to get
the others out of the cave and on the road to Sybok if she doesn't return in three hours. The kids decide, three hours
later, to follow her trail instead, leading them to the Ebene stronghold.
Inside the stronghold, Philip is interrupted while torturing Galen by Ruby, his new mistress and second in command.
She informs him that a girl has been caught skulking around the fortress and has Ariadne dragged in. Philip is delighted
to see his estranged wife and begins to torture Galen in front of her. Suddenly, Isa, Chandler, Lily, Arista, and Eileen
burst into the unguarded stronghold - Ariadne took out most of the guards - brandishing the weapons of the fallen Phoenix
Fighters. Though they put up a valient fight, Philip and Ruby slaughter them one by one while Ariadne is forced to watch.
The vision ends and Adriana is shaken by what she's seen. Again, Joey offers Adriana the chance to become an avatar
and have visions of portals. Afraid for the lives of her children, Adriana accepts. Before Joey leaves, however,
Ana asks why she, of all the Phoenix Fighters, was chosen. Joey replies that a long time ago, a prophecy was made about
four people saving the realm. Left alone, Adriana considers what she learned on her trip to Warren's time, when the
time bodyguard told her that four people in the House are currently being protected.
